22 Nov Tips to Keep Your Vehicle Wrap Looking Fabulous
One of the most popular topics we discuss with our clients is care and maintenance of their wraps. It never fails, as soon as a client sees their newly wrapped vehicle the first question is, “When can I wash it?” We understand that after you’ve made the investment to wrap your vehicle, you want to ensure that the colors stay vibrant and the wrap lasts a good long while. Proper care of a wrapped vehicle is the best way to maintain that newly-wrapped look and protect your investment. We at Full Sail Graphics do all we can on our end to ensure you receive the highest quality vehicle wrap; once the vehicle leaves our shop the long-term care and maintenance are up to our customers.
To help you properly care for your wrapped vehicles, we’ve provided some helpful tips that will help safeguard against damage and improve the longevity of your vehicle wrap.
The Best Way to Wash a Wrapped Vehicle
Many customers in the past have asked if they can take their wrapped vehicle through a car wash or if hand-washing would be best. We prefer that our customers hand-wash their wrapped vehicles, but they absolutely can choose to take them through a car wash. In the end, it’s your vehicle, you can do as you please, but ultimately to be on the safe side and provide the best care possible we suggest hand-washing. The main reason we tend to shy away from automated car washes is that with so many other vehicles using that same car wash you can’t control what debris may be stuck in the scrubbers as your car goes through the wash. Even the smallest stone could cause serious damage to your wrap. You also have no control over how abrasive the scrubbers may be, whereas if you hand-wash you can apply only gentle pressure to ensure your wrap is well taken care of.
When hand-washing, we suggest that you first wet down your vehicle thoroughly, making sure to rinse off any dirt or debris to avoid scratching your vehicle. Next, always use a clean rag or sponge and wash from the top of the vehicle down to the bottom, wiping gently but not scrubbing. Rinse well and then allow your vehicle to air dry. If you prefer, you can also dry your vehicle gently with a clean microfiber towel.

Pressure Washing Wrapped Vehicles
From time to time we have customers who own work trucks that may require pressure washing. As we just discussed, hand-washing is always the preferred method for wrapped vehicles, however, if you must pressure wash your vehicle keep these important points in mind:
- Make sure that there are no areas on your vehicle where the wrap may be lifting up. If you do find areas like this, make sure they are repaired before applying high-pressure water to the wrap.
- Keep from spraying your vehicle from an angle especially along seamed areas of the wrap to avoid forcing the wrap to loosen and lift from the vehicle.
- Keep the water pressure no higher than 800 psi to 2000 psi.
- Water temperature should be kept between 72 and 180 degrees
- Angle the nozzle at a 45-degree angle and use a sweeping motion when spraying.
Waxing Wrapped Vehicles
Occasionally customers will ask if they can wax over their wrapped vehicles. The beauty part of investing in a vehicle wrap is that they are all laminated, therefore eliminating the need for waxing. If you are looking for a particular shine or finish, we have a number of options to choose from when we create your vehicle wrap. Just let us know during the design phase what you would like and we will make sure you are happy with the end product.
